When planning my own wedding in 2015, one thought kept repeating itself over and over again: “If I didn’t have almost 20 years of experience as a professional party planner, how on earth would I plan the wedding of our dreams on this budget?!?”
You probably already know that the average wedding in the U.S. is sky high. According to Bride’s, the average cost of a wedding in 2018 was over $44,000. If you’re anything like me, that figure is bonkers! Even if we had access to that kind of disposable income, we would never have spent it on our wedding. It would have gone toward a down payment on a house, paying off student loans, traveling, or even basic living expenses. My hubby and I love to throw a party, but life comes first!
On top of that, wedding planning can feel like a full-time job. That’s why there’s an entire profession dedicated to it. Budgets, contracts and negotiations, complex logistics and creative design are just the tip of the iceberg. It can be overwhelming to say the least. If you have a budget that supports it, you can hire professionals to do the heavy lifting. But for many couples, it can be a challenge to decide where to save and where to splurge to maximize your resources and have the wedding of your dreams.
And last but not least, we are inundated with images and expectations about what the “perfect” wedding is supposed to be. So many of us have spent hours pouring over Pinterest looking for ideas (which can be both a blessing and a curse). Knowing how to creatively curate the look and feel of your special day from the thousands of images out there takes years of experience. It can be difficult to know how to take the design ideas you fall in love with and marry them with your budget.

I hosted my first tea party at the age of 5 on the island paradise of Grenada. And - voilá- my destiny as a party planner extraordinaire was born! In 1999, I moved to Miami where I began my career in events. I worked with companies around the world with an emphasis on excellence in logistics, finance and design. And throughout all of that, I’ve been a part of countless weddings in every role from flower girl to planner to bride.
I’ve loved weddings my entire life. My besties can tell you about my secret stash of bridal magazines that I kept under my bed in high school. I could spend hours soaking up every romantic detail. Over the years, it has given me great joy to use the knowledge and expertise I gained in the world of corporate events to assist friends and family plan their weddings. I particularly love taking what makes each couple unique and expressing those elements throughout their special day.
My personal style can best be described as a mix of Kate Spade meets vintage boho. When I design events, I focus on what will make guests feel welcome and comfortable. From simple yet tasty menus, signature cocktails and mocktails, to pops of color and custom play lists, these elements create a perfect touch of joie de vivre even on our modest budget.
When I’m not coaching brides, you’ll find me at the local farmer’s market with my hubby (#foodie), wine tasting with friends, producing award-winning indie films, playing Horizon Zero Dawn, or catching up on the latest episode of This is Us.
